EITHN DUON |
Hanes
prynu a gwella Eithin Duon
Y
peth pwysicaf yn hanes y clwb, heb amheuaeth, oedd
prynu'r cae yn 1972-1973. Y cam cyntaf oedd llogi
tarw haearn i'w lefelu, gan fod rhediad o un droedfedd
ar ddeg o'r gornel uchaf i'r gôl isaf. Yna ei hau
a'i adael, gan chwarae ar gae Ysgol Brynrefail yn
nhymor 1973-1974. Maint y cae oedd 101 wrth 55 llath.
Yn
anffodus, nid oedd yr wyneb newydd yn sychu'n dda,
ac yn y tymor dilynol gorfu i aelodau o'r pwyllgor
agor pedair traen, gosod peipiau tir ynddynt a'u gorchuddio
â grafel a thywod.
Yn
1992 fe roddwyd cornel fach o dir i'r clwb gan Mr. William
Pritchard, perchennog y caeau cyfagos, ac fe benderfynwyd
ymestyn maint y cae. Yn y cyfnod 1993-1994 daeth mwy
o dir i'w perchnogaeth ac fe brynwyd dunelli lawer o
bridd eilradd i godi'r tir newydd i lefel y cae. Bu'n
waith pum diwrnod i ddympar a JCB i gwblhau'r dasg.
Torrwyd traeniau newydd, cyfanswm o 420 llath, eu llenwi
â gro a gosod peipiau plastig â thyllau ynddynt. Yna
prynwyd pridd o safon, ei drin a'i hadu. Fe gostiodd
y cyfan bron i bedair mil a hanner o goffrau'r clwb.
Bellach mae'r cae yn mesur 108 wrth 59½ llath.
The
History of purchasing and improving Eithin Duon
One
of the most important events in the history of Llanrug
United Football Club without doubt was the purchase
of Eithin Duon in 1972-1973. One of the first projects
was to level the playing surface, there was a slope
of nearly eleven feet from the top corner to the
bottom goal. Therefore, for the ground to be developed
the club home fixtures for the 1973-1974 season
were played at Brynrefail School playing field.
The playing surface size in those early days was
101 yards by 55 yards.
Unfortunaetly,
the new playing surface did not drain very well,
and as a result the following season the committee
members got to work, and opened four drainage trenches
across the width of the pitch, inserted drainage
pipes, and filled them up with gravel and sand.
In
1992 Mr William Pritchard (life member & former
player) owner of the adjoining fields, donated a
corner of land to the club, so the playing surface
could be extended. And in 1993-1994 Mr Hefin Pritchard
donated more land to the club in memory of his late
father, and as a result the playing surface could
then be extended. Several tonnes of soil was purchased
to lift the new land to the level of the exsiting
playing surface. It proved to be a whole five days
of work for a JCB and a dumper to complete the task,
new drains where also installed, a total of 420
yards of drainage pipes were laid.

Prosiect
datblygu Eithin Duon - Haf, 2003.
Yn
ystod Haf, 2003 y prosiect gwaith oedd gosod ffens
newydd o bibelli haearn o amgylch perimedr y maes
chware, a cael gwared o'r hen postiau coed a'r weiran
beryglus. Archebwyd pibellau, ac cafodd y gwaith o'u
gosod eu gwneud yn ôl yr arfer gan aelodau'r
pwyllgor a chefnogwyr brwydfrydig y Clwb. Roedd cyn
gymaint a 30 o weithwyr parod yn Eithin Duon ar nôson
braf o Haf yn mis Mehefin, 2003. Dim menter hawdd
oedd naddu tyllau, ymglymu'r pipellau, codi lefelau,
cementio'r coesau, ac i orffen peintio'r ffens yn
wyn. Yn ogystal codwyd wal ar hyd asgell uchaf y cae,
a ffens ar eu hyd, a chyfle i roi fwy o fyrddau hysbysebu
ar eu gwyneb.
Eithin
Duon Development Project - Summer, 2003.
During
the Summer of 2003, the club's Development Project
for Eithin Duon was to install a tubing fence around
the playing perimeter of the filed, and to get rid
of the old timber post and dangerous wire who had
served the club well for several decades. Several
hundred yards of steel tubing was purchased, ac the
whole labour worked was carried out as usual by the
members of the committe and the die hard supporters
of the club. As much as 30 air of able hands were
present at Eithin Duon during several summer evenings
in June, 2003. It was no easy task to dig holes, assemble
the tubing, set levels, cement the up-rights, ac to
paint the whole fence. Also a wall was erected a long
the upper wing of the ground, with a fence on top
of it, and also plenty of space for further advertising
boards to be placed on its
face.

Diwedd
cyfnod........
Dymchwel
yr hen ystafelloedd newid.
Digon
trist oedd y gwaith o ddymchwel yr hen ystafelloedd
newid yn Eithin Duon ar y 9fed o Fedi, 2004. Roedd
yr adeilad pren wedi gwasanaethu'r clwb am dros dri
deg o flynyddoedd, ond roedd ei gyflwr bellach wedi
diriwio ac y costau cyson o'i gynnal a'i gadw yn faich
ar goffau'r clwb. Yn ogystal roedd iechyd a diogelwch
yn eflen bwysig iawn yn penderfyniad y Pwyllgor ei
ddymchwel yn ogystal a'i olwg i'r llygaid yn y blynyddoedd
diweddar.
Yn
nhymor 1969-1970 y cafodd George W Lovatt y cyfle
i brynu'r adeilad pren yma yn Mhorthmadog. Ac aeth
criw o bwyllgor y clwb yno i dynnu y cwt i lawr yn
ddarnau ac yna ei gludo yr holl ffordd i Eithin Duon.
Yna ail-adeiladwyd y cwt, ac ei rannu oddifewn yn
dair ystafell newid i'r chwaraewyr ac y dyfarnwr.

End
of an Era.........
Demolishing
the old dressing rooms
The
work of demolishing the old dressing room at Eithin
Duon on the 9th June, 2004 was a very sad occasion
for the club. The wooden building had served the
club well for over three decades, but its condition
had deteriorated immensly, and the constent work
of repairing and maintenance was becoming a huge
burden on the clubs resources. The health and
safety aspect was a major factor in the club's
decision to demolish the building, and also its
was becoming an eyesore in the club immaculate
Eithin Duon ground.
Its
was back at the start of the 1969-1970 season,
when George W Lovatt had the opportunity to purchase
this wooden building in Porthmadog. Members of
the committe travelled their to pull the building
down piece by piece, then transport its all the
way to Eithin Duon, where they re-built it, and
divided it into three to serve as changing rooms
for both sets of teams and the referee.
