Eight
goal bonanza should have been more as United demolish
lowly Amlwch.
A more entertaining affair for the United faithful on
Monday afternoon after a dire 90 minutes against Halkyn
on Saturday. Eight goals scored but it should have been
more, but the first appearance of Amlwch and some strange
faces in the squad that didn't match the team sheet, which
might explain the recent results against Pwllheli and
Nantlle Vale? The same line-up for United that started
the Saturday game, and with whistle happy Arwel Jones
in the centre there was more than the roars of the United
keeper to contend with!
It
took United 12 minutes to break the deadlock, when Andrew
Williams latched on to a great through ball by Aled Owen
on the right side of the area which he buried under the
keeper from around eight yards out. From thereon to say
that this game was one-sided would be an understatement,
with Andy progressing to get his hat-trick and Aled Williams
barely tested in United's goal as nearly all of Amlwch's
efforts were off target. Gareth Eifion Jones had a golden
opportunity to double United's lead on the half hour mark,
but with only the keeper to beat he sliced his effort
well wide, in another one of those it was easier to score
than miss episodes! But, he made amends in the 37th minute
when Aled Owen was once again the provider, a free-kick
in the centre circle, quickly taken by Aled he released
Gareth Eifion down the middle into the area and he made
no mistakes this time around.
Andy
claimed his second in the 41st minute when Dan Pyrs was
the provider with a great ball into the right side of
the area, Andy advanced and was crashed to the floor by
the keeper, but not before his final touch ensured the
ball was in the back of the net. Half-time and 3 - 0,
and you could sense that there were more goals to come
in the second half.
How
right we were, five more goals in all but within 3 minutes
of the resumption Chris Joyce wanted some of the action,
having scored a penalty against Nantlle Vale he tried
to lob the keeper from just beyond the half way line -
he was being optimistic to say the least! Within five
minutes and Andy was in front of goal once again, his
first effort for 6 yards blocked by the keeper, his second
went over the bar, with it's final resting point nearer
Penbont than Eithin Duon! Carl Griffiths was denied within
a minute when the visiting keeper pulled off a great stop
to deny Carl across gaol from the left side. With 54 minutes
gone Andy claimed his hattrick, a Charlie free-kick to
Aled Owen forward to Gareth Eifion who found Andy in the
area who once again finished from the 6 yard mark again
under the keeper.
Another
great save by Amlwch's keeper denied Gareth Eifion on
the hour mark, but Charlie made it 5 - 0 in the 65th minute
when he cooly placed the ball to the bottom right corner
from around 20 yards out. Marvin Pritchard struck the
bar two minutes later, before being replaced by Gavin
Rogerson in the 72nd minute. Gwyn Pritchard Jones came
on for Gareth Eifion in the 75th minute, some fresh legs
to liven things up a bit. Carl Griffiths claimend a brace
on 76 and 78 minutes, his first a great ball by Charlie
and a cool finish passed the keeper's left glove - although
I wasn't looking in the direction of the defence I'm reliably
told that Eifion Williams celibrated the 6th in typical
pansy like fashion! Carl's second originated by a Gethin
Phillips clearance (something moments earlier tried by
Eifion on the other side but that one, as did many on
the day, went straight out for a throw-in!) the Amlwch
defence gifted the ball to Carl and he made no mistake
from the right side, although the mud in the centre of
the goal did slow the ball down before it crossed the
line.
Before
play resumend Keith Williams came on for Chris Joyce who
was no doubt tired after another faultless display! Carl
came close to claiming his hat-trick in the 81st minute
when he went charging down the left side but his final
ball lacked venum, in tanden Charlie stroked the ball
forward but it was left for Gwyn Prtichard Jones to tap-in
from a yard or so out on the far post. Charlie could have
made it nine five minutes from time with only the keeper
to beat he showed to much of the ball with a heavey touch
and the keeper thwarted the effort.
A
couple of minutes from time and everyone thought that
United's captain had been replaced by a girl, when girlish
screams were heard when one of Amlwch's front men collided
gently with him in the centre of the park, and he was
on the floor screaming in agony!!
Next
up a trip to Rhydymwyn on Saturday in the penultimate
game of the season before Glan Conwy come to Eithin Duon
on the 16th to conclude business for the 2008/09 season.
