Report By Huwsi
United
taught a lesson in football by League favourites @ Eithin
Duon
Anyone
seen United's defence?
They
went AWOL just after lunch time on Saturday and haven't
been seen since!
Before
kick-off things were looking good for United, with David
Noel Williams given the all clear to play again, and Dan
Pyrs back from his travels, however Carl Wayne Jones was
suspended, and only a place on the bench for Christian
Jarvis. Following a minutes silence in remembrance of
the Late Mr Cledwyn Jones, the match started quite even,
but on 15 minutes Martin Bohana stretched to clear a cross
from Pesda's left flank, and was very unlucky when the
ball scraped through passed Luke to give the visitors
the lead. This proved to be decisive and the turning point
of the game which saw the floodgates open and a deluge
of chances being delivered at Luke Hughes between United's
posts.
Bethesda's
Richard Owen amassed another four goals taking his league
tally to 16 and top of the Welsh Alliance 'Top Goal Scorer'
league. His first came after 22 minutes, when the visitors
lifted the ball over United's rearguard for Gareth Davies
to cross across the goal from the left for Owen to tap
in from 6 yards. The next three minutes was very busy
for Luke Hughes with Bethesda's front men Gareth Davies
and Richard Owen running riot with their advances.
United
had a golden opportunity to claw one back 25 minutes in,
Gavin Edwards in the area one-on-one with the keeper,
but ball stuck to his feet, which allowed Bethesda's defence
time to block his effort. Another three minutes summed
up United's afternoon, David Noel's free-kick from 30
yards struck the effective wall, but bounced back to Charlie
who got another fine shot away but he could only strike
back into play off the bar, which and saw Bethesda take
advantage with another break, but Eifion Williams' challenge
thwarted the effort. Two minutes later Gareth Eifion Jones
latched on to a cross from the right; however his effort
was a yard wide of the mark from outside the box. The
resulting goal kick saw Eifion Williams fail to clear
and gifted the ball to Pesda's Gareth Davies who crossed
to Richard Owen to claim his second with a shot to Luke's
left, 0-3.
The
37th minute saw Pesda make it 0-4, Gareth Davies was brought
down in the area but quickly got to his feet and crossed
for Richard Owen to tap in from a yard out to claim his
hat-trick. Just before the interval, Gareth Davies turned
from being the provider to being the scorer, when he shot
passed Luke from a very acute angle from the left, H-T,
0-5 and game over!
The
second half started very much as the first finished. The
first minute saw the ball in the back of the United net
again, but it was disallowed for a foul on the keeper,
but it didn't take long for Pesda to increase their lead.
A 49 minute clearance by Luke found the feet of an opponent
whose shot hit the bar but bounced out kindly for Matthew
Hughes to slot home. Pesda's 7th after 57 minutes was
scored straight from a left sided corner by Richard Owen
to complete his scoring for the day, as a few minutes
later he and Gareth Davies were awarded with a well deserved
rest when Pesda manager Chris O'Neil brought on the subs.
The
next twenty minutes or so saw United fire a number of
efforts towards Bethesda's goal, but efforts from Dan
Pyrs, Gavin Edwards and Marvin Pritchard lacked the killer
instinct and didn't place too much pressure on the visiting
keeper. Another David Noel Williams' free-kick on 74 minutes
swerved passed the wall only to strike the upright, that
summed up United's day, and taking nothing away from the
visitors United were very poor on the day and when Lance
Williams completed the scoring on 75 and 77 minutes, it
was just a case of trying to avoid a double figure thrashing,
which United managed - just about! Although conceding
nine, Luke made a few fine saves and can truly feel left
down by the lack of protection to stop the Pesda stampede.
A
day to forget I think - Aled Owen's comment after the
game "we were taught a lesson in how to play football
today" let's hope that all the players learn from
the lesson, as United's travel up the coast to Holywell
next Saturday, before welcoming Rhyl Reserves to Eithin
Duon the following Saturday.
