Sweet
revenge for United in a dire 90 minutes at Eithin Duon
Llanrug turned up, Halkyn turned up, Halkyn scored after
33 minutes, Llanrug equalised two minutes later, half
time 1-1. Llanrug took the lead in the 63rd minute and
sealed things off in the 80th minute when a Delap throw
was headed into his own net by Halkyn's captain, and that's
how interesting it got!
It
wasn't a great game by any stretch of the imagination,
very flat but a positive was that Eithin Duon was drowned
in some thunderous roars as United welcomed back Aled
Williams between the posts, who cut short his climb up
Snowdon stroll around Cleigir at a drop of a hat once
he received the last minute call from Kevin Owen at 13:40m
as Luke Hughes was hospitalised and Dewi Jones nursing
a re-set broken nose that he got courtesy of the Halkyn
centre forward in the reverse fixture a couple of weeks
back! Also missing for United was influential midfielder
turned centre-half Carl Wayne Jones who was on his travels
getting hitched at some exotic destination, so Aled Owen
filled the gap and brought Marvin Pritchard into midfield.
Halkyn
started the brightest testing Aled Williams within five
minutes when he had already made two saves, and poor marking
in the seventh minute saw a free head meet a corner but
went a yard over the bar. Carl Griffiths and Andy Williams
linked up well next which saw Carl deliver a fine cross
into the six yard box, but Gareth Eifion Jones' header
went over from just beyond the far post. Within 15 minutes
and Aled to the rescue once again, Marvin lost the ball
cheaply in the centre and Halkyn's midfield found their
number 8 in space who easily progressed around Aled Owen
but Aled Williams proved a different proposition when
he came off his line to block the effort at goal.
Before
the half hour mark United had further chances to take
the lead, David Noel Williams saw the keeper off his line
and tried to chip over but went a yard wide, he had a
free-kick some 30 yards out which he floated in but the
keeper collected unchallenged. Gareth Eifion went inches
wide with a header from a Gethin Phillips throw, and just
before Halkyn took the lead Chris Joyce delivered a fine
cross into the six yard box, but no one was there to take
advantage.
The
33rd minute saw Halkyn take a brief lead when Kevin Whishart's
strike from the edge of the area went in off the post
after Aled got a hand to the effort. The lead was short
lived however when Carl Griffiths cancelled their advantage
with a move which started from a short goal-kick to Chris
Joyce, who switched through Eifion Williams to Gethin
Phillips on the right who found Andy by the corner flag,
who won a throw-in, which is always as good as a corner
when you have Gethin Phillips in your side. A fine delivery
into the six yard box was met by Charlie who forced a
good save from the visiting keeper but it fell nicely
to Carl Griffiths to hammer home, 1 - 1 which was kept
that way until half-time thanks to Aled Williams when
he denied Halkyn's number 10 a couple of minutes later
with a great save when the Halkyn forward struck down
the left side and across the goal some 15 yards out.
Within
a minute of the resumption United had the chance to take
the lead when Charlie took a free-kick some 30 yards out
but his effort went wide, as was the case when Gareth
Eifion won yet another header in the area a few minutes
later from yet another fine Gethin Phillips throw. United
did find a way through after 63 minutes though, another
Charlie free-kick just outside the 18 yard line straight
in front of goal, he saw a gap in the wall and found the
bottom right corner with apparent ease. Dan Pyrs had a
couple of wild efforts, the nearest he got struck the
'cwt te' and highest he got came down with moon dust!
Gareth
Eifion had a golden opportunity to extend United's lead
after 77 minutes when had a free header from a nicely
taken free-kick on the right side but the effort went
over. Halkyn were denied twice in close succession a couple
of minutes later when Aled smothered the first low effort
and got a good hand to a floated cross by his far post
for the second, which was a minute before United extended
their lead when Gethin Phillips throw into the six yard
box was headed forward and beyond the keeper into the
net by Halkyn's captain.
Game
all but over, the dying seconds saw Chris Joyce play a
one-two with a Halkyn player and as he was about to deliver
the best cross of the game the referee blew for time!
A dire 90 minutes but a good result nonetheless, as Halkyn
had beaten United twice already this season. Next up Amlwch
on Bank Holiday Monday, who over the past week have had
their best results e season with a 1-1 draw against Pwllheli
and 0 - 0 draw against Nantlle Vale, maybe they've found
some new players from somewhere - we'll have to wait and
see!!
