UNITED
BEAT RWSTERS @ EITHIN DUON
United kept
their early season form by defeating a spirited Llanrwst
United outfit by two goals to nil at Eithin Duon. United's
squad was boosted by the return from holiday of last season's
top marksman Richard Evans, and by recent acquisition
experienced midfielder Robert Hugh Williams, who served
Glantraeth well for several seasons.
The early stages
were evenly contested with neither goalkeepers being called
into action. United did get the ball into the Rwsters
net on the quarter of an hour mark, but it was adjudged
offside in dubious circumstances by Connah's Quay based
referee Mr Mike K Griffiths, and in the second phase of
actual play.
Mid way through
the first period United increased the tempo and piled
on the pressure, the breakthrough eventually came on the
half hour mark. Midfielder Dan Pyrs released striker Mathew
Phillips down the left flank, and his low and precise
cross to the far post gave fellow striker Richard Evans
the easy task of firing United into a deserved lead.
Within three
minutes United doubled there advantage, striker Richard
Evans fine pass released Mathew Phillips through on goal
from the halfway line. Despite being put under pressure
by two defenders and the advancing keeper Phillips kept
his cool and passed the ball delicately into the bottom
left hand corner of the net.
United were
well in control at this stage and created several good
goal scoring opportunities, but Paul Roberts the Rwsters
keeper kept his side in the match with several very impressive
saves. On the other hand Aled Williams the United keeper
who had a quiet afternoon was called to make a fine diving
save within a minute of the interval, from a low hard
drive from the visitor's midfielder Bryn Jenkins.
The second
half commenced with United well in control, an early strike
from an angle by Mathew Phillips brought a fine save from
the visitors keeper. And on the hour mark he pulled off
another fine save on this occasion from striker Richard
Evans.
Despite dominating
possession and creating several good goal scoring opportunities
United failed to increase their advantage, and Aled Williams
in United's goal was never really tested in the second
period, and the United's rearguard held firm throughout,
well marshalled by Martin Bohana and Eifion Williams.
United can
now look forward to welcome Nefyn United to Eithin Duon
on Tuesday for a Welsh Alliance League encounter.
