UNITED TROUNCE NEFYN…..…..
United gained an extremely valuable three league points, with a fine home win at a heavy Eithin Duon pitch against Nefyn United Reserves. Able to pick from a strong squad of players, and several first team regulars who did not feature in United last league match against Llandudno Junction. Therefore United’s line up had an unfamiliar look to it. Gethin Phillips and Ceirion Williams came in as full-backs and the influential David Noel Williams slotted into midfield, and Gareth Eifion Jones was used as a striker.
The score line at the interval was 1-0 to United, a solitary goal from midfielder Martin Owen, but this did not reflect the real flow of the match. United created several good goal scoring opportunities but failed to capitalise, this match should have been over as a contest well before the interval, but it was not to be, and the visitors had some hope.
United’s star of the day youngster Martin Williams, gave the visitors defenders a torrid time all afternoon, and on a fine run into the penalty area on forty nine minutes, he was hacked down by a Nefyn defender. Experienced midfielder Bedwyr Evans made no mistake from the resulting spot kick, to double United’s advantage.
Martin Williams increased United advantage on fifty eight minutes an excellent finish to a fine move involving several players. Within four minutes sixteen year old central defender Iwan Price got in on the act, hammering the ball into the roof of the net following a corner from the right by David Noel Williams.
Rounding things off for United on seventy two minutes, Keith Williams unleashed an unstopable strike from just outside the penalty area. But the visitors gained a consolation goal in the final minute, sloppy defending from United allowed Chris Moore to turn at the near post and a low shot from three yards out gave Aled Williams not chance in the United goal.
A confident booster for United with a comfortable win, and much needed match time for the senior regulars.
