WONDER STRIKE SHOULD OF GAINED MAXIMUM POINTS FOR UNITED......

A wonder strike by youngster Ian Williams from 40 yards out should have been the match winner for United against a stubborn Celts outfit. Missing several experience players due to various commitments United squad had a young freshness to it for this encounter.

United trailed at the interval to a strike on ten minutes from Celts striker Paul Thomas, who turned well on the edge of the area and a low shot to the bottom left hand corner of the net gave United keeper Aled Williams no chance. But despite having a share of the possession and creating several good goal scoring United failed to capitalise. United lost the service of young centre back Iwan Price at the interval, and had to reshuffle at the back.

Within a minute of the resumption captain Keith Williams delivered a perfect free kick from the right flank onto the head of Liam Robertson who’s thunderous header brought United level.

United had to deal with a further blow, losing the service of defender Gwion Llwyd, who was sensationally elbowed in the eye, but the match referee failed to punish the culprit.

At this stage United were dominating proceedings, and got their award when Ian Williams some forty five yard out coolly controlled the ball directly form the Celts keeper clearance. Williams took a touch, advanced a couple of yards, set himself up for a fine strike over the retreating keeper and under the Celts cross bar to give United a deserved lead.

United should of gone on to wrap up proceedings and gain a valuable away win, but unfortunately the failed to find the elusive third goal to kill off the tie as a contest, and were duly punished ten minutes from the final whistle the ball fell kindly to the unmarked Paul Thomas at the far post, and he calmly finished from five yard out to give Celts a share of the spoils.

The United youngsters battled well throughout this encounter, and despite gaining a valuable point the felt disappointed at not gaining a win. A home cup tie up next for United facing Celts for the third time this season in a Kon-X Cup 1 st Round encounter at Eithin Duon.
