United triumph over Beganifs........
United gained their fourth consecutive win, with a battling 3-1 win at local rivals Waunfawr. Several changes were made due to injuries and absentees, Iwan P Jones came into midfield for the injured Gwyn Davies, Andy Gibson and Keith Williams slotted into the defence, and sixteen year old goalkeeper Carwyn Eddy made his debut in the absence of regular Aled Williams.
The hosts commenced brightly, with United on the back foot in the early exchanges, Carwyn Eddy the United goalkeeper pulled off a couple of outstanding saves to keep United on level terms. United weathered the early onslaught, and gain the lead on the half hour mark, a quickly taken free kick by Iwan P Jones on the half way line, released birthday boy Martin Williams through on goal, he calmly rounded the advancing keeper, and slotted the ball into the empty net.
The hosts response was immediate; again bring out a couple of outstanding saves from youngster Carwyn Eddy the United goalkeeper.
United regained their composure, and following the interval went on to dominate possession, and created several good goal scoring opportunities. A fine run and cross from right fullback Keith Williams produced a golden opportunity for veteran striker Huw Geraint Williams, which he duly took on sixty two minutes. A fine looping header beyond the stranded keeper into the top left hand corner of the net, to double United’s advantage.
United were then forced to make two substitutions due to injuries, Sion Eifion Jones replaced Martin Williams and Iwan Arwel Jones slotted into midfield for the injured Iwan P Jones. Sion Eifion immediately made an impact, and should on increased United’s advantage, but his close range header from an Iwan Price free kick flew over the crossbar. Sion soon made amends, a fine individual goal on seventy five minutes, a superb finish into the bottom left hand corner of the net.
The host responded was immediate, with a goal on seventy seven minutes by striker Ioan Gwynedd, which proved to be only a consolation.
Another win and three precious points for United, with the whole squad contributing to a fine performance.
